Auxin Binding Protein 1 Reinforces Resistance to Sugarcane Mosaic Virus in Maize.

چکیده
Dear Editor, Sugarcane mosaic virus (SCMV) causes severe viral diseases in maize worldwide (Fuchs and Gruntzig, 1995), resulting in significant losses in grain and forage yield in susceptible cultivars of maize and related crops. The most promising solution is to cultivate resistant varieties, which contribute to sustainable crop production. Two epistatically interacting major SCMV resistance loci (Scmv1 and Scmv2) are required to confer complete resistance against SCMV in the resistant nearisogenic line F7RR/RR (the letters left of the slash refer to the genotype at Scmv2 on chromosome 3 and those on the right refer to the genotype at Scmv1 on chromosome 6, with R indicating a resistance allele and S a susceptibility allele) (Xing et al., 2006). Scmv2 adds a second layer of resistance to the immediate response mediated by Scmv1. Scmv1 has recently been identified to encode ZmTrxh, which acts as a molecular chaperone to suppress viral RNA accumulation in cytoplasm without eliciting a salicylic acidor jasmonic acidmediated defense response (Liu et al., 2017). Further characterization of Maize chlorotic mottle virus and its synergistic interaction with Sugarcane mosaic virus in maize
Maize chlorotic mottle virus (MCMV) was first reported in maize in China in 2009. In this study we further analyzed the epidemiology of MCMV and corn lethal necrosis disease (CLND) in China. We determined that CLND observed in China was caused by co-infection of MCMV and sugarcane mosaic virus (SCMV). Phylogenetic analysis using four full-length MCMV cDNA sequences obtained in this study and th...
متن کاملMaize Elongin C interacts with the viral genome-linked protein, VPg, of Sugarcane mosaic virus and facilitates virus infection
The viral genome-linked protein, VPg, of potyviruses is involved in viral genome replication and translation. To determine host proteins that interact with Sugarcane mosaic virus (SCMV) VPg, a yeast two-hybrid screen was used and a maize (Zea mays) Elongin C (ZmElc) protein was identified. ZmELC transcript was observed in all maize organs, but most highly in leaves and pistil extracts, and ZmEl...
متن کاملExpression Analysis of Hairpin RNA Carrying Sugarcane mosaic virus (SCMV) Derived Sequences and Transgenic Resistance Development in a Model Rice Plant
Developing transgenic resistance in monocotyledonous crops against pathogens remains a challenging area of research. Sugarcane mosaic virus (SCMV) is a serious pathogen of many monocotyledonous crops including sugarcane. The objective of present study was to analyze transgenic expression of hairpin RNA (hpRNA), targeting simultaneously CP (Coat Protein) and Hc-Pro (helper component-proteinase) ...
متن کاملThe Mdm1 Locus and Maize Resistance to Maize dwarf mosaic virus
Maize dwarf mosaic and sugarcane mosaic, the diseases incited by Maize dwarf mosaic virus (MDMV) and Sugarcane mosaic virus (SCMV), are among the most important maize viral diseases worldwide (28). The two viruses are related members of the genus Potyvirus that are nonpersistently transmitted by aphids (16) and can be mechanically transmitted experimentally. They are differentiated from one ano...
